Meeting for the second time this year, the Kent State Undergraduate Student Government discussed several pressing issues at the university.

With the deadline to submit all applications to the USG offices at 5 p.m. Wednesday, the elections commission led by director Hanna Wiese will be working with applicants about campaign guidelines.

All students running for a position are recommended to attend a workshop for campaign regulations Thursday in the Alumni Suite.

Other items discussed include:

  • Resolution S-13-01, to revise the Ohio Code to elect two students from each Ohio university to serve a two year term in the Ohio Board of Trustees, was passed by USG and will be sent to the Ohio General Assembly and the governor’s office in the near future.
  • Joseph Bizjak, senator for residence halls, will meet with the Ohio majority whip on Friday in Columbus to discuss housing costs at Ohio universities.
  • Feb. 26 and 28, Kent State will be holding a town hall meeting to discuss a proposed smoking ban on campus. More information will be available closer to the scheduled dates.
  • All student organizations looking for approval have until Friday’s deadline to get five members and a faculty advisor to sign off on the organization with the university.
  • The Kent State Ballroom will be the site for a Chinese New Years celebration for the year of the snake Sunday.
  • An update to the Student Center is being looked at to turn room 204 into an admissions presentation center to help incoming students move about campus with more ease as construction on Summit Street begins in the future.
