University of Akron building evacuated for reports of person with a weapon

Police conducted a thorough search of the Polsky building but did not find anything suspicious, said Laura Massie, director of media relations for the University of Akron. The building was evacuated due to a tip that a person was in the building with an unidentified weapon.

“It was an evacuation for an abundance of caution,” Massie said.

The Polsky building is scheduled to reopen tomorrow.

University of Akron students were evacuated from the Polsky building Thursday evening for reports of a person with a weapon inside.

Campus police said that all the students were safely evacuated and no one was injured. The Polsky will remain closed for the rest of the night.

According to the University of Akron, the Polsky building is located downtown and houses classrooms, a Starbucks, a bookstore and a police station.
