KSU student falls to her death in accident

A 19-year-old Kent State student died late at night on Dec. 15 as she fell from the fire escape of an old manufacturing plant in Akron.

Adrienne Ryba, 19, Collin Butler, her high school sweetheart, and one other couple were at the Atlantic Foundry on Annadale Ave. in Akron to watch a meteor shower, according to news reports.

Ryba fell from the rafters of one of the abandoned buildings. Akron police found her unresponsive at the scene at 12:45 a.m. that night. Akron police said the incident is still under investigation.

Ryba studied interior design at Kent State, and graduated from Medina County’s Highland High School. Her funeral service took place Thursday at 11 a.m. at Northside Christian Church in Wadsworth, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. More details on Ryba’s death will be released in the beginning of the academic semester.
