University Libraries is preparing for its fifth annual Office Olympics that will begin July 16 and go through July 24.

This year’s games include a paper airplane throw, a doughnut dash and a pingpong event. An opening ceremony will take place on July 16. A closing ceremony, along with a book cart drill team exhibition, will be July 24.

The first Office Olympics began in 1996, and the games have taken place every four years since then, just like the real Olympics.

“They’re a blast,” said Diane Sperko, University Libraries communication director. “I’ve been here for every one.”

Each day, events will be held throughout the University Library building and areas nearby from noon to 1 p.m.

The games are open to staff and student employees of University Libraries and to all staff from other units who work in the University Library building. University Libraries employees in other campus locations are welcome to participate as well.

Users and visitors to the library should not be disrupted by the games.
