A seventh-inning comeback by Oregon halted Kent State’s chances of competing in the College World Series for the first time, at least for one more day.

The Ducks scored three runs in the top of the seventh to earned a 3-2 win over the Flashes in the second game of the Super Regional Sunday night in Eugene, Ore.

The win by Oregon ties the series at 1-1 and ended the Flashes’ 21-game winning streak. The two teams will play a deciding third game Monday night, with the winner advancing to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The Flashes led for most of the game and kept the Ducks in check early on, thanks to the solid pitching of starter Ryan Bores. The junior right-hander pitched six scoreless innings, striking out four Oregon batters.

The seventh inning was a different story for Bores as the Ducks’ offense came alive. Oregon first baseman Ryon Healy reached base on a single to center field, and left fielder Brett Thomas followed up with a base hit that was misplayed by Flashes’ left fielder Alex Miklos. Healy scored on the error to put the first run on the board for the Ducks.

Two batters later, Ducks’ third baseman Ryan Hambright singled to right field to drive in the game-tying run. Catcher Brett Hambright gave Oregon the lead with a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher, making the score 3-2 in favor of the Ducks.

The Flashes had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, as sophomore right fielder T.J. Sutton led off the inning with a double down the right-field line. However, the next three Kent State batters struck out, bringing the game to a close.

Kent State got a strong performance from junior first baseman George Roberts. The Mid-American Conference Player of the Year went 2-for-4 in the game, with a solo home run in the second inning and an RBI double in the fourth.

The Flashes and the Ducks will play the third and final game of the Eugene Super Regional Monday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
