Tiffany & Co. design director emeritus John Loring will speak at the E. Turner Stump Theatre at 7:30 p.m. today.

Loring will discuss his book on Joseph Urban, a Gilded Age architect, illustrator and designer.

Loring has written 21 books on Tiffany & Co. jewelry and worked as the New York bureau chief of Architectural Digest.

He graduated from Yale University in 1960 with an English degree and continued his studies at Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. Loring also received an honorary doctorate of fine arts from Pratt Institute.

Joseph Urban, the subject of Loring’s biography, worked as a set designer for the Metropolitan Opera and designed nightclubs, skyscrapers, theaters and children’s books.

His work can be seen in the New School and Hearst Tower in New York City.

This is Loring’s second visit to Kent State and was selected as part of the Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series.

The event is free and open to the public. Loring will be available after the presentation for a book signing, and his biography, “Joseph Urban,” will be available for purchase.

There will also be a free dessert reception following the presentation. Reservations are not required.

“We are thrilled to have him visiting,” said Effie Tsengas, marketing and PR director of the College of the Arts. “I’m sure he will bring a large, diverse audience.”
