Two Kent State students robbed early Saturday

Two students were robbed at gunpoint off-campus this weekend, just two days before classes began this morning.

The robbery occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday near Lake Street and Harvey Avenue.

Victims said a black male, about 5 feet 3 inches, demanded money and cell phones, according to the Kent City Police Department.

The suspect, wearing a white hoodie and jeans, was armed with a handgun and fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said.

The students, one man and one woman in their early twenties, were uninjured and reported the robbery Saturday afternoon. No arrests had been made at that time, according to Kent police.

Lake Street is home to apartments and rentals, which are populated by many Kent State students.

There’s generally an increase in crime as students return to campus. Last fall, three robberies occurred by Sept. 1, and another two robberies occurred in November. They all happened on or around campus or student housing.
