Flashes defeat Tulsa

The Kent State men’s basketball team ended an eight-season run without a postseason victory in dramatic fashion yesterday against Tulsa, 75-74, in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament at the M.A.C. Center.

With 20.8 seconds left, the Flashes took a one-point lead behind a layup by junior guard Rodriquez Sherman. On the other end of the court, Tulsa guard Ben Uzah missed the Golden Hurricane’s final shot to give Kent State the win.

All six of Kent State’s scorers hit double digits: senior guard Chris Singletary (16), Sherman (15), senior forward Anthony Simpson (13), freshman guard Randal Holt (11), senior guard Tyree Evans (10) and sophomore forward Justin Greene (10).

Kent State will next face the winner of the Illinois-Stony Brook game.
