Katie Brooke Quilt Shop: A stroll down Acorn Alley …

When 2009 rolled around, Marcy Moisio, owner of Katie Brooke Quilt Shop, was eager to leave her old place on South Water Street and move into her new location at 144 E. Main St.

“It was a great move,” Moisio said. “I was the first one in this new section of buildings.”

Named after Moisio’s granddaughters, Katie and Brooke, the quilt shop offers supplies for making curtains, quilts and home accessories. The shop also offers quilt-making classes and purse-making classes. They also work on wall hangings. The shop’s main focus is on Civil War and 1930’s fabrics.

Moisio said she hopes to attract average Kent State students as well as fashion design majors.

“I would really like to attract some of the college students who want to accessorize their projects, purses, belts and things like that,” Moisio said.

Katie Brooke Quilt Shop offers a 15 percent discount for Kent State students. It also offers a customer reward, as well as a birthday club, where customers are able to come in on the month of their birthday and receive a free yard of fabric with their purchase.

Moisio said she believes in giving back to the community. She said she has made many community donations, including the boutique quilt that was raffled at Relay for Life in April.

The shop is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The shop is closed Sundays.
