The Kent State soccer team (2-2) defeated Youngstown State 1-0 in double overtime today in Youngstown.

Senior midfielder Catherine Marosszeky scored the game-winning goal on a free kick in the 109th minute, after junior forward Kelly Heaton was fouled on an illegal tackle on the outside of the penalty box by Youngstown State freshman midfielder Katie Peterlin.

Marosszeky’s 14th career goal tied her for fifth all-time in program history.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Sherwood earned the shutout, with the help of her defense that limited Youngstown to only one shot on goal.

The Flashes finished with ten shots on goal, and consistently tested Youngstown’s defense throughout the game.

Kent State travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico next weekend where they will face-off against Tulsa, on Friday and Cal State Northridge Sunday.
