Girls Fight Back! will host a women’s safety and self-defense seminar at 7 p.m. today in the Student Center Ballroom.

The featured speaker is Michaela Jackson. The seminar is a 90-minute interactive program. The material is presented in a comedic fashion and designed to include simple self-defense techniques, safety tips and empowerment for women.

Mallory Kaplan, member of Sigma Sigma Sigma and vice president of risk management for the National Pan-Hellenic Council, is helping organize the event.

Erin Weed began Girls Fight Back! in 2001 after the slaying of her friend, Shannon McNamara. Both students attended Eastern Illinois University.
