The Kent State volleyball team returned home from the IPFW Invitational at Fort Wayne, Ind., tonight after a series of lost matches.

Kent State began the weekend with a match against Eastern Illinois on Friday. The Flashes won their first set, 25-19, but were defeated in the following three sets by Eastern Illinois. Later that evening, Kent State was shut out by Drake in three straight sets.

Kent State coach Glen Conley said lack of chemistry and trust led to the team’s performance.

“We have seven new players,” Conley said. “We need to develop trust that every player is giving one hundred percent.”

Today, Kent State faced IPFW and Butler. The Flashes played four sets against the Mastodons, and after winning a close first set, 25-23, lost the next three. Butler swept Kent State in three sets to finish the invitational.

Conley said the team improved today despite the losses.

“We didn’t see the results we wanted,” Conley said, “but we played well today.”

The Flashes will next travel to face Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
