A member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity is in serious condition at Akron City Hospital after an altercation early Sunday morning.

Steve Nicholas was found unconscious in the street at University Drive after a large fight involving multiple individuals broke out on the street. Friends brought him inside Lambda Chi Alpha’s house at 216 University Drive, said Lt. Ray Stein of Kent police.

Police arrived to the scene at 3:50 a.m. responding to calls of disorderly conduct on University Drive. Nicholas reportedly gained consciousness, but began vomiting, prompting police to call paramedics to transport him to the hospital.

He is being treated in the hospital’s intensive care unit, said Mike Bernstein, Akron City Hospital’s public relations manager.

No one has been charged in the incident, and Stein said it is not known if Nicholas was involved in the altercation.

Lambda Chi Alpha and other members of the Greek community gathered Sunday night at the painted rock on front campus to show support for Nicholas.

“We can’t really say anything at this time,” said David Segen, adviser for the Kent State’s Lambda Chi chapter. “We just want to say that we appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. The first 72 hours are a really critical time, like with any injury. Our focus is just making sure that the brothers are OK.”
