The union representing 367 full- and part-time employees rejected a contract offer from the university Saturday, according to a post on the union’s Web site.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 153 represents employees who work in the Student Center, Dining Services, Residence Services, Campus Environment and Operations and other departments across campus.

Local 153 treasurer Cindy Schuckert said on the Web site, local153.wetpaint.com, that the contract offer was “overwhelmingly voted down.”

In an interview last week, Dave Schuckert, president of Local 153, said the issue would go to a fact finder if the union turned the offer down. He said a fact finder is an impartial mediator who will make a non-binding decision.

Neither members of the union nor the university were available for comment over the weekend.
