Dance instructor to lecture on Spanish dancing at Ballroom

Flamenco dance instructor and performer La Romera is coming to Kent State tonight at 7:30 to give a lecture and demonstration in the Student Center Ballroom.

Flamenco is an art form that comes from the gypsies of the Andalusia region in southern Spain.

It includes cante (song), baile (dance), toque (guitar) and palmas (hand clapping).

La Romera will be talking about the art of flamenco and will perform several dances.

She will also give audience members a chance to come up on stage and learn steps of flamenco.

La Romera has been a professional dancer for 37 years.

She started her career in Spain, where she taught flamenco in Madrid and Seville and performed in flamenco dinner theaters.

She has performed in Spain and in the United States.

The lecture demonstration is free and open to the public.
