James Dalton was announced yesterday as the new interim dean of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. He is replacing Steven Fong, who recently resigned.

Dalton is a professor of architecture and environmental design.

Provost Robert Frank said Dalton had led the college before and his appointment was a unanimous decision of the faculty.

“There was no question that he was the best choice to serve as interim dean of the college,” Frank said.

Frank said Dalton will continue his teaching responsibilities this semester and possibly continue to teach some classes in the spring.

Dalton also served as interim dean of the college two years ago. He started at Kent State in 1984 as director of the School of Architecture and Environmental Design before it became a college.

“Administration’s not new to me,” Dalton said.

Frank said a search committee for a new dean will be formed in the spring semester. The college probably won’t have a new dean until Spring 2009 at the earliest, he said.
