The Holiday Basketball Tournament is bouncing back to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

This double-elimination tournament begins Nov. 27 and ends Dec. 6, and teams can be scheduled to play any night, Monday through Thursday, during the two-week period.

“It’s almost like playing an entire season in two weeks,” said Greg Bailey, assistant director of intramurals and club sports and community leagues. He encourages students to be available every night during the tournament, and a team may be scheduled to play two games in one night.

Each team is required to have five members, but can have up to 15. However, Bailey recommends having between seven and eight to ensure every member is able to play. ÿ

The tournament encompasses a men’s, women’s and a co-rec division. Bailey said he hopes to have more participation in the women’s and co-rec divisions.

Each game will consist of two 20-minute halves and will follow slightly modified, nationally federated rules for high school basketball.

The winners of each division will win an intramurals champions T-shirt and have bragging rights for a year.

The tournament gives students an opportunity to play basketball in the fall, Bailey said. It also gives student officials a chance to practice for spring semester.

Registration ends Nov. 16, and the cost is $40 per team. Those interested can register by contacting the Pro Shop at (330) 672- 4REC or visiting the Department of Recreational Services Web site www.recservices.kent.edu.
