Women’s golf team in fourth place after two rounds

The women’s golf team finished yesterday at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in fourth place overall, 11 strokes behind tournament leaders Denver.

The team will finish the final 18 holes of play in their last event of the fall season today.

Junior Kirby Dreher, individual leader at the Mercedes Benz Women’s Collegiate on Oct. 14, leads the Flashes again at even-par. She currently sits in a tie for eighth place in the field of 66 golfers.

Three other Kent State golfers shot their way into the top 15 in the first two days of play. Senior Tara Delaney shot 1-over-par in the first two rounds and will start the third round in a tie for 11th.

Freshman Martina Gavier will begin the final day of play in 14th place at 2-over par, while senior Kira Meixner shot a 3-over-par and is currently in a tie for 15th.

Kent State entered this tournament with its highest national ranking in team history, 13th, and will start the final round of play behind 17th-ranked Denver, ninth-ranked Arizona and 12th-ranked Tennessee.

Kent State finished the day 2 strokes behind Tennessee and 6 strokes behind Arizona.
