Allerton Apartment program helps students plan for a home

Students living in Allerton Apartments can make their dreams of home ownership a reality with the brand new “Books to Bricks” program.

A kickoff to the program, which is a partnership between Kent State and Century 21 Prestige Realty Group, will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the Allerton Activity Room.

“It’s something to introduce residents to the program,” Allerton Apartments manager Brian Hellwig said.

He said the program was established to “offer students more incentive to live in Allerton.”

The free program allows students to earn up to $1,000 in home equity credits toward the purchase of a home after leaving Allerton Apartments. Each credit earned is equal to $1.

Students get 300 credits when they sign or renew a lease with Allerton Apartments. Residents receive 20 more credits each month they live at Allerton.

At the kickoff, students can learn more about the program and enjoy a picnic-style dinner of hot dogs and burgers. They also can register to win a $25 gas card, and kids can participate in a coloring contest.
