Freshman program seeks new leaders

The Office of First Year Experience is seeking around 200 faculty discussion leaders for a revamped freshman summer reading project.

Over the summer, the university will require incoming freshmen to read “The Namesake” by Jhumpa Lahiri, and faculty will lead hour-and-a-half discussions of the book during the Week of Welcome.

Capellman said the discussions should center around the issues present in the book, namely biculturalism, navigating values and searching for identity.

“It’s basically the foundations of a college student’s experience,” she said.

Interested faculty members may sign up on the First Year Experience Web site at http://explore.kent.edu/fye/index.html.
