Local poet to perform

David Yochum

Ace Boogie has worked with some of hip-hop and neo-soul’s biggest artists. He’s able to name-drop the likes of Common, Lyfe

Jennings, Jadakiss, Angie Stone, Floetry, Saul Williams and Musiq.

He has released seven independent hip-hop/poetry projects in the past four years and will bring his seasoned sound and spoken word at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Oscar Ritchie Hall next to the African Community Theatre.

Presented by Harambee and Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Ace Boogie’s music and rhymes counter mainstream hip-hop culture. The Akron Beacon Journal has said his flow “speaks to and for fans that have grown tired of mainstream hip-hop’s pimpin’, club banging, hoe hoppin’ and bling-blingin’.”

Tonight’s performance will be free and include free refreshments.

Boogie also hosts a weekly poetry session and is a member of the Hip-Hop Committee at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
