Flashes take No. 3 spot at Firestone

The Kent State men’s golf team took third out of 14 teams in its first meeting this season with other Mid-American Conference teams this weekend in the FirstEnergy Intercollegiate.

Kent State finished behind MAC rival Ball State and Eastern Kentucky at the tournament at Firestone Country Club.

Kent State finished at eight strokes over par for a total of 872. Ball State led the way at 10-under, followed by Eastern Kentucky at 3-over.

Ball State senior Patrick Wilkes-Krier took first place at 15-under, finishing with a score of 201.

Kent State senior Ryan Yip tied for third place at 3-under for a total of 213.

Also finishing in the top 20 for the Flashes were sophomore Tommy Wiegand in a tie for sixth place at 2-under and sophomore Tom Ballinger at 6-over, tied for 19th.

Scoring behind the Flashes were Austin Peay at 18-over and Eastern Michigan in a tie with Bowling Green at 19-over.

Next up for the Flashes is the MAC Championship Tournament beginning Thursday in Indianapolis.
