Flashes’ plans to continue strong play

The Kent State baseball team will take its three-game winning streak on the road this weekend to Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois for a three-game series.

The Flashes (14-10, 4-2 MAC) are led by MAC Hitter of the Week, infielder Drew Saylor (.409), who had eight extra-base hits, three home runs and 13 RBIs last week. The team is coming off three decisive victories where it outscored opponents 40-11, most recently defeating Duquesne 13-2.

The Huskies (12-14, 4-2 MAC) are picking up speed after a slow start, having won seven of their last eight games. The team is coming off an 11-8 victory over Illinois State Tuesday, improving its home record to 5-1. They also lead the MAC with a .344 batting average in conference games this season.

Kent State is tied with Bowling Green for first place in the MAC East Division, while Northern Illinois is in a three-way tie for first place with Toledo and Central Michigan in the MAC West.

The last time these two teams met was last spring, and the Flashes claimed a victory over the Huskies in the MAC Tournament.
