Two cars collided at the intersection of state Route 261 and Franklin Avenue yesterday, closing or restricting surrounding streets for about half an hour.

The crash occurred at 1:51 p.m. and surrounding streets were re-opened at 2:25 p.m., Kent Police Lt. Duane Matthews said.

Police closed 261 westbound at Water Street and Franklin Avenue at Currie-Hall Parkway, Matthews said. Traffic coming from Sunnybrook Road could only turn right, and eastbound traffic on state Route 261 was prohibited from going north.

Both cars had to be towed from the scene, one from the nearby ditch.

Three people were involved in the accident, and two were transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital, said John Tosko, captain of the Kent Fire Department. The extent of their injuries was not known, and names were not released because the collision is still under investigation.
