BREAKING NEWS: Planes collide in midair in Portage County

Two small planes collided in midair at about 2:30 p.m. today near the intersection of Industry and Tallmadge roads in Rootstown Township.

After the collision, both of the planes crashed to the ground.

Richmond Nettey, director of aeronautics at Kent State, said the planes were not Kent State University Airport planes.

“We conducted position reports of all of our aircraft, and everyone has called in their position,” Nettey said. “All of our aircraft are accounted for.”

One of the planes was carrying three people, and the other was carrying two, according to Nettey.

The State Highway Patrol would not comment on any further details.
