Hillel hosts events for Jewish New Year

When Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown tonight, Jews will be ringing in the year 5766.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins tonight at sundown and ends Wednesday evening. To celebrate, Hillel will host events today and tomorrow for Jewish students and community members.

Events include the blowing of the shofar, or ram’s horn, and Tashlich, where Jews stand at the bank of a moving body of water and throw in bread to symbolize the casting away of sins.

Hillel will host services tonight at 7 p.m. and tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Student Center Governance Chambers. Rabbi David Singer will officiate.

On Thursday, Hillel will finish its celebrations with a party at Ray’s Place that is open to all students.
