Homecoming scheduled for Sept. 17

Mark your calendars because homecoming at Kent State is scheduled for Sept. 17, 2005. This is a change from the usual October homecoming Kent has seen the last years.

“Homecoming is typically predicated on the football schedule,” said Nancy Schiappa, associate director of outreach at the Alumni Center. “November weather is miserable, and we are playing to a wide audience.”

Schiappa said that some of the alumni audience heads out of state during winter months.

At the moment, things are just starting to be planned, but it is certain that the parade will not take place this year, Schiappa said.

The format will be similar to that of last year. The schedule of events includes window decorating, roll call and a banner competition. There will be winners of all the contests in three different categories: Greek, residence halls and non-Greek, non-residence hall.

The bonfire will take place Sept. 15. The location of the bonfire has yet to be determined.

Applications are now available to nominate Homecoming king and queen. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 2.
