Sports administration professor Theresa Walton-Fisette is set to take over as Kent State’s Faculty Athletic Representative starting July 1. Her predecessor, economics professor Kathy Wilson, served as the FAR for 18 years, leaving the position to continue teaching full-time.

In Wilson’s tenure as FAR, she ensured “the academic integrity of intercollegiate athletics, facilitating an inclusive environment and enhancing the student-athlete experience,” according to the press release.

“With great appreciation, I thank you, Dr. Wilson, for making us better during your tenure as FAR,” Diacon said in the press release.

Wilson also led the athletics climate study to “identify areas of improvement and spearheaded the creation of our Play as One Strategic Plan.” Walton-Fisette will continue Wilson’s work as well as including her previous committee duties.

Since joining Kent State’s faculty in 2003, Walton-Fisette has served on the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee, being chair several times since 2006, according to a university press release from President Todd Diacon.

In addition to the Intercollegiate Athletics committee, Walton-Fisette has also served on the Intercollegiate Athletics Equity, Equity and Inclusiveness Working Group and Hall of Fame Selection committees.

She was also a member of the 2021 Director of Athletics Search Committee and participated in the Intercollegiate Athletics Strategic Planning Committee on the DEI Belonging Working Group.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Walton-Fisette in her new role as FAR,” Diacon said in the press release. “We look forward to working with her to ensure student success in intercollegiate athletics.”
