Men’s basketball advances to MAC championship after defeating TSDTR

The Kent State men’s basketball team defeated Akron 76-69 in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference tournament. 

The Flashes will now play No. 1 seed Toledo in the championship game. 

Kent State finished the season 2-1 against the Zips. 

KSU shot 37.9% from the field while shooting 9-of-26 behind the arc. Akron shot 44.2% and 7-of-22 from three. 

Redshirt senior forward Miryne Thomas led the Flashes with 24 points. Redshirt senior guard Sincere Carry added 21 points. Redshirt senior guard Malique Jacobs totaled 10 points and four steals. 

Kent State forced 18 turnovers, leading to 31 points – the Zips forced six turnovers, scoring seven points.

The Rockets are currently on a 17 game winning streak, with their last loss coming on Jan. 10 when the Flashes won 75-63. 

Tip off is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
