Freshman shines in her first collegiate golf tournament as women’s golf finishes seventh

The women’s golf team thrived this past week at the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Freshman Veronika Kedronová earned an impressive win in her first collegiate tournament, tying for first place out of 93 players.

She finished at nine under and shooting under par all three rounds of the invitational.

Kedronová, originally from The Czech Republic, had a great start on Monday, shooting a 66.

She sank 15 birdies over two days, which tied for the most at the tournament.

This victory for Kedronová follows her win at the Czech International Amateur Championship at the beginning of August.

Kent State took seventh out of 16 clubs, finishing at 13 over par as a team. Pepperdine won the tournament, shooting 14 under par.

Last year’s freshman star Leon Takagi began her season with another top-20 finish, tying for 17th at one over par.

The final golfer to end up in the top 50 was graduate student Noramol Nuchsila, tying for 46th

with a weekend-best round of 73 during the second round.

On Sunday, Kent State will head to Michigan for the Mary Fossum Invitational.
