The legendary signal of a party, the red solo cup, takes 450 years to decompose — if it’s even able to.

America’s beloved cup is made of six plastics, quantified as no. 6 plastic, each being incredibly difficult to break down. In return, many of our recycling centers can’t break down the red solo cup because of the chemicals they release when heated.

In addition, if this cup is left in yards, fields or streets, the process lengthens. Animals can ingest the materials and particles can enter our water systems, infecting a whole town or city. All from one cup.

The summer months are right around the corner, and businesses in Kent are preparing for another summer season.

With students leaving for summer to go back home and stay with family, one would think that businesses downtown would be slow, but Jacob Klemm, manager at Panini’s Bar and Grill, said it is actually quite the opposite.

“During the school year, it stays steady all the way through,” Klemm said. “Once summer comes, we open all the patio doors and we get really busy.”

In coach Kenni Burns’ first year as head coach of Kent State football, the team went 1-11.

Burns came from Minnesota, where he was the assistant head coach. He had to work through a sudden change of leadership in the new age of college sports, where the transfer portal runs rampant.

Burns now has had time to craft his team and get a full off-season of training with his players.

Members of the Kent State men’s and women’s bo

Members of the Kent State men’s and women’s bowling teams were allowed to test out the bowling alley underneath Eastway Dining Center Wednesday. They were allowed in to solicit feedback on the quality of the lanes.

Conversations to open the Eastway bowling alley have continued since a petition to reopen the space gained traction last semester. The university has since moved forward with conversations about a potential future for the bowling alley.

Members from both bowling teams said they were impressed with the quality of the space, despite appearing aged.
