PHOTO STORY: Students celebrate Fake Patty’s Day in downtown Kent

A lengthy line in front of Ray’s Place in downtown Kent on March 9, 2024.

Editor’s note: A photo caption was amended for accuracy. Initially, a caption indicated the photo of a driveway as outside of Sigma Phi Epsilon, which was incorrect. The caption was updated to Alpha Tau Omega.

Fake Patty’s Day celebrations on March 9, 2024, continued late into the night. Students visited fraternity parties, local bars and restaurants alike to keep the party going.

The unofficial holiday is a college tradition of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day early and is commonly celebrated by traveling to bars and day drinking with friends.

Often, the partying continues well into the evening, and this year’s Fake Patty’s Day was no different. Many local establishments, including Ray’s Place and Barflyy Retro Bar And Arcade, support the event through themed drinks, lowered prices and discounts.

Barhopping this year saw heavy crowds as the night went on. Despite the long lines and crowded environment, enthusiasm for Fake Patty’s Day did not wane.

Students and Kent residents showed up in droves to celebrate the unofficial holiday, sporting St. Patrick’s Day-themed clothing and boundless enthusiasm for the day of parties and drinking.
