Kent State gymnastics took second place during a quad meet at North Carolina State University’s Reynolds Coliseum on Friday.

The Flashes managed to defeat North Carolina State and Rutgers but dropped the meet to  University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Kent State finished with a final score of 194.725.

Freshman Rachel Stypinski took first place in the floor title with a 9.925, while freshman Michaela Romito tied for first on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.850.

“Overall, I think we did really well,” Stypinski said. “We had mistakes, but our team kept fighting. We hope to do really well home and away for the rest of the season so we can qualify for regionals as a team and show everyone what we are made of and what we can accomplish.”

Stypinski and Romito, as well as senior Chelsea Drooger on the vault, sophomore Skyelee Lamano on the floor and freshman Brooke Timko on the balance beam, all managed top-five finishes.

“We looked like a new team,” Timko said. “The team came together and kept fighting until the end. We kept our attitudes right when things didn’t go the way we planned. For the future, we need to get good scores no matter what, away or home.”

UNC-Chapel Hill walked away with three wins and a score of 194.950, and North Carolina State took third place with a final score of 194.625, while Rutgers took fourth with a score of 193.950.

Kent State will host George Washington for the annual Pink Meet in the M.A.C. Center on March 1.
