Letter from the editor: New semester, new Stater

Audrey Fletcher

The end of August brings the excitement of a new school year. As students, we return to campus, face new challenges and find intriguing opportunities.

A web-and-mobile-first world is the challenge The Kent Stater staff is facing, but this challenge has presented us with an opportunity to rethink and revamp the way we reach you, our audience. We couldn’t be more excited.

The Kent Stater will come to you in print format two days a week, Mondays and Thursdays. KSUBuzz, our weekly entertainment edition, will be on stands Wednesdays, just in time for the weekend.

On the days we aren’t producing a paper, we will be able to focus our energy and attention on producing the same great content for KentWired.com and the KentWired app.

As we move forward this semester, we as a staff are making a commitment to reach you where you want us — on mobile, web and social media platforms.

We learned the importance of those platforms spring semester when the campus was locked down for three hours after a student discharged a firearm. The KentWired Twitter page gained about 800 followers within that time.

You want to know what’s going on, right now. You don’t want to wait until the next day’s paper.

Our vision is to make this publication web-focused with photos, videos and interactive elements to complement each story.

On the days we have a print paper, the content will still be excellent and with our new commitment to engaging design, it will also look great.

Download the KentWired app, follow KentWired on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, check KentWired.com for updates throughout the day, and pick up the paper when it is on the stands.

We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been preparing throughout the summer, and we hope you enjoy and appreciate the change.
