Mark Brazaitis, award-winning poet, to speak at Kent State Student Center on Jan. 27

Mark Brazaitis, author of four books, including “The Other Language: Poems” and “The River of Lost Voices: Stories from Guatemala,” will present his writings today at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center Room 306.

Brazaitis is the director of the creative writing at West Virginia University.

He worked in Guatemala as a Peace Corps volunteer from 1990 to 1993 and as a Peace Corps technical trainer from 1995 to 1996. He received the Maria Thomas Fiction Award from the Peace Corps Writers for his novel “Steal My Heart” in 2001.

Brazaitis has received several other awards for his work, including the 2008 ABZ Poetry Prize for “The Other Language” and the 1998 Iowa short Fiction Award for “The River of Lost Voices.”

The event is hosted by the Wick Poetry Center.
