Utility work may disrupt Main Street traffic

Utility work will restrict eastbound traffic on Main Street to one lane between Water and Depeyster streets Monday through Thursday of next week, Kent’s Department of Public Service announced Friday.

Cathy Wilson, an account clerk with the city engineering department, said the work will focus on the water lines beneath the buildings involved in the downtown redevelopment.

Most of the work will affect angled parking spaces in front of the buildings in the area and shouldn’t disrupt traffic, Wilson said. Still, drivers are asked to avoid the area and leave extra time for traveling.

Local businesses will remain open during the construction, which will take place from 8 a.m. to about 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Residents can contact the engineering department at 330-678-8106 for more information.
