After season best finish, men’s golf looks to repeat performance

The Kent State men’s golf team starts play at the Bank of Tennessee at the Ridges today, following its season-best second-place finish at last week’s Windon Memorial Classic.

The team will play in Jonesborough, Tenn., led by last week’s Mid-American Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week, sophomore David Ludlow. Ludlow earned the award after tying for fifth place in the Windon Memorial, an event where he shot 11 birdies in three rounds.

Ludlow’s freshman teammates Brett Cairns, John Hahn and Jean-Philippe Paiement also played well last tournament, with each shooting at least one under-par round.

The second place finish was by far the Flashes’ best this season after 54 holes of play, though they did finish third in the Purdue/Midwest shootout in which weather canceled all but 18 holes.

The team looks to carry the momentum from last week’s tournament over to today’s start. The golfers may want to forget their final round last week, when they lost a 10 stroke lead to Northwestern after shooting their only over-par team round of the tournament.

The Flashes ended up one shot out of a tie for first place with the Wildcats, who were the only other team to finish with an under-par team score.

The team will play 18 holes per day in this three day tournament, which ends Sunday afternoon.
