Preston Mitchum and Katie Hale’s platform goals running for executive director of the Undergraduate Student Senate can be summed up in two ideas each.

For Katie Hale, they are better communication and accommodation for students.

For Preston Mitchum, they are improving retention rates and spending students’ money wisely.

Both candidates, however, have one common goal – increasing the operating hours at the Student Center to better suit students’ needs and desires.

Hale said she is running for executive director of USS because it is part of her desire to serve people for the rest of her life.

“I think I would make a good executive director because I have a way of relating to virtually every student on campus,” said Hale, former USS administrative assistant.

Mitchum said his passion for USS is behind his bid for executive director.

“I can offer experience, personality and knowledge knowing that I already have a connection with Kent students,” said Mitchum, a two-time student senator.

Shana Scott, publicity commissioner for USS elections, said all candidates for the 2007 USS election will be introduced during halftime at the Kent State versus Akron men’s basketball game 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Prior to the game, candidates will participate in a meet-and-greet session beginning at 6 p.m.
