Official wrestling season starts Saturday

The Kent State wrestling team will officially open its season at the SUNY-Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Showcase on Saturday in Brockport, N.Y.

Last season, the Flashes placed second in the annual meet.

With a team score of 92.5, the Flashes trailed Oklahoma, who compiled a team score of 212.5.

With a 7-15 overall dual meet record and a 1-4 dual meet record in the Mid-American Conference, the Flashes finished the 2004-2005 season in a tie for fifth place in the MAC.

The team placed in the No. 3 spot at the 2005 MAC Championships and ended its season in a tie for 63rd place at the 2005 NCAA Championships.

The Flashes will be competing against 10 other teams including Oklahoma, Cleveland State, Ohio, Brown, the United States Military Academy, Pennsylvania, Buffalo, Rutgers, Bloomsburg and SUNY Brockport.

The Flashes will face Cleveland State again in their first home meet on Jan. 5 at the M.A.C. Center.
