A bicyclist was struck by a car Thursday going through a crosswalk at the roundabout in front of the Kent Student Center.

According to a Kent City Police report, Carolyn Beal, 62, of Kent failed to yield to Brooke Rogers, 22, of Lake Milton, Ohio as Rogers entered the marked crosswalk on her bicycle. Rogers was taken to the University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna after suffering minor injuries. Beal was not injured, but has been arrested and is facing charges.

Lieutenant Michael Lewis said the crash was alcohol-related. “The driver of the vehicle (Beal) was arrested and charged with (operating a vehicle while intoxicated)” Lewis said. “More charges may be coming.”

Traffic on Summit Street was limited to one way as the westbound lane was closed between Campus Center Drive and Morris Road.
