Sophomore Zane Cattage competes in the high jump during the track and field meet against Akron Jan. 19, 2024.

Kent State’s track and field team attended two meets on the road beginning Feb. 9.

First, attending the two-day Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and then the SPIRE Indoor Games Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.

“We had some solid events and some we fell flat in,” coach Nathan Fanger said. “The way this time of the season goes, they are loaded up. So next weekend, they kind of take a weekend off and get ready for the conference.”

Men’s team

Ethan Yost

At the Tyson Invitational, senior Ethan Yost finished the men’s mile in fourth place. He ran a time of 4:03.28

Yost missed his best from last weekend at the Meyo Invitational (4:03.25).

Layne Studer

Freshman Layne Studer had yet another successful weekend with the pole vault event, setting another new personal best with a height of 16’-8.75” to place first.

This puts Studer in a tie for the seventh spot on Kent State’s all-time indoor performance list.

Women’s team

Grace Luther

Graduate student Grace Luther won the women’s weight throw once again at the Tyson Invitational.

She threw a 62’-5”.

Luther is undefeated this season.

Women’s 4×400 Team

The 4×400 team included graduate student Jericha Petrella, senior Taylor Korytkowski, senior Alexandria Verbancic, and freshman Amryne Chilton.

The team ran a 3:42.04, which is the best in the Mid-American Conference this year.

“They go first in the MAC,” Fanger said. “They had a really good time, just shy of the school record.”

Up Next

Moving forward, the Flashes have one meet this weekend.

They will attend the Al Campbell Invitational in Akron on Feb. 16.
