Kent City Police is investigating an attempted aggravated robbery from Sunday afternoon at Safeway Food Store on Fairchild Avenue.

A suspect entered the store shortly before 3:30 p.m. carrying a handgun, according to a new release supplied by the police department Monday. The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark pants and shoes, a black hoodie and an orange backpack.

The man reportedly attempted to gain access to the store’s cash register, but fled the premises and headed southbound on Silver Meadows Boulevard before he was able to take anything. No injuries have been reported.

This is the second incident at Safeway this month. Three suspects robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes on Jan. 4 before fleeing the store. Police are still investigating the occurrence, along with yesterday’s attempted robbery.

Kent Police ask that anyone with information on the suspect contact them at (330) 673-7732.
