Instagram announced Tuesday it will allow videos up to 60 seconds, up from the previous 15-second option.

According to a blog post, the time people spent watching video increased by more than 40 percent in the last six months.

The update is available on both iOS and Android.

An added update coming later this week on iOS allows users to make videos out of multiple clips.

Instagram announced last week it is creating a new algorithm showcasing posts the app thinks users want to see rather than the traditional chronological order.

This change will not take effect for several weeks or months, according to an Instagram spokesperson.
