The College of Public Health is holding several events in honor of National Public Health Week from April 7 to 13.

“The student group Public Health Student Alliance has taken it upon themselves to provide many events throughout the week,” said Ken Slenkovich, assistant dean of the College of Public Health.

The events consist of an alumni panel of recent public health graduates for a networking session on Monday, a public health fair on Tuesday and the Public Health Research Forum on Thursday for students and faculty to share their research interests, said Lorriane Odhiambo, president of Public Health Student Alliance.

“We put on these events to highlight the National Public Health Week and promote awareness about the importance of taking care of ones’ health from a prevention perspective,” Odhiambo said.

Senior public health major Allison Hubbell said she is planning to attend the alumni panel and the public health fair to talk with recent graduates are available to someone with a public health degree and network with representatives from different organizations.

“Its important and beneficial that Kent is offering opportunities for us students to meet future employers, and what I’m most concerned about as a senior is finding a job in the public health field, so I think it’s important to take advantage of the opportunities they are providing,” Hubbell said.

“It’s a big event,” Slenkovich said. “Colleges from across the country get involved. I think it’s a good way for students to learn information on how to keep themselves healthier but to also contribute to a healthier society.”
