Two tugboats towed a Carnival cruise ship to Mexico after the ship was stranded in the Gulf of Mexico about 150 miles from the coast Monday. The ship’s engine room caught fire early Sunday, which resulted in the use of backup generators. Passengers on the ship had limited access to bathrooms, food and hot drinks.

Kenyan Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta said during Kenya’s first presidential debate that the crimes against humanity charges he faces would not stop him from running the country. The International Criminal Court charged Kenyatta with the crimes after the violence that occurred after the 2007 election where more than 1,000 people died. The presidential election will take place March 4.

More than 60 people were injured after a powerful twister swept through three counties in Mississippi Sunday. Police have said that so far no one has been killed in the storms.

Scott A. Smith, 38, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, was arrested on Aug. 4 at a showing of “The Dark Knight Rises,” in Westlake after he was found carrying a loaded gun, ammunition and knives. He pleaded guilty to two weapons counts on Monday. He still faces a trial for a third count.
