More than $4,000 was raised to go toward student scholarships in the School of the Arts and the School of Visual Communication Design at an auction Saturday in the Kent Student Center.

Eight panels featuring the comic Funky Winkerbean, created by Kent State alumni Tom Batiuk and Chuck Ayers, were sold, and the panels that weren’t will be “secured until future plans are made,” said Nancy Schiappa, associate director of Alumni Relations.

More than 50 guests visited The Nest to view and purchase the panels. Plans to raise the remainder of the $25,000 goal are yet to be determined, Schiappa said.
