Friends of Katherine Iarussi are holding a candlelight vigil Saturday from 7 – 10 p.m. at the rock on Front Campus.

Iarussi, 20, died Sunday in a car crash on state Route 5 in Paris Township, east of state Route 225.

“Katherine was an amazing, amazing girl,” said Jake Dubinsky, freshman theatre studies major and one of the students hosting the vigil. “She had a big impact on many people’s lives. She was funny, outgoing, nice, incredibly artistic.”

The Facebook page for Iarussi’s vigil shows the love that she lived with. More than 200 people have confirmed that they will gather to remember her around the rock.

“The funny thing is, I did expect to have a big turnout because she had so many friends and so many people that looked up to her and admired her,” Dubinsky said.

Dubinsky asked those attending the vigil to bring their own candles and to bring pictures or come prepared with a memory of Iarussi.

Iarussi is the third Kent State student to die this semester and the fourth this year.
