Board of Trustees await state budget, approve esplanade extension

Students will have to wait to find out if tuition will increase for the 2011-2012 school year.

The Board of Trustees met Thursday afternoon to approve, among other things, an expenditure authorization in the event that Ohio Governor John Kasich and the Ohio General Assembly don’t pass a state budget by the July 1 deadline.

The expenditure authorization would allow President Lefton to use money from auxiliary funds to run the university after July 1 until a state budget is passed.

The Board of Trustees also approved:

  • The extension of the University Esplanade into downtown.
  • The purchase of property at 205 South Willow St. for $210,000 as part of the esplanade extension.
  • The establishment of legal entities in India and Switzerland to aid Kent State University recruiting centers already established in both countries.
  • The establishment of a center for ecology and natural resource sustainability in the College of Arts and Sciences.
