Fraternity to host Soberfest Thursday

Phi Delta Theta is hosting the first-ever Soberfest on Thursday at its house at Fraternity Circle.

Soberfest will be an entirely alcohol-free party. The event starts at 8 p.m. and is being sponsored by Monster Energy Drink.

Steve Stapleton, Phi Delta Theta member, said Phi Delta Theta is a nationally dry fraternity with the biggest house on campus, making it the perfect location for Soberfest.

“We thought, ‘What was wrong with throwing a big dry party?’” Stapleton said.

Admission to the party is $5 at the door and all proceeds go to the ALS Association for those those with ALS, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

ALS is also called Lou Gehrig’s Disease and is a progressive neurodegenerative disease.

Soberfest is offering a virgin drink bar, lots of Monster energy drinks, a Facebook Photobooth, different gaming systems, a live DJ and awards like “Best Dressed” and “Most Sober.”

“It is a way to enjoy yourself without alcohol,” Stapleton said. “We wanted to try and gain more support on campus and show what it was like for a fraternity to be dry.”
