INTRO:

Halloween is arguably the biggest celebration at Kent.

But after all the fun is over, who is left to clean up the community the next day?

TV2 Reporter Elizabeth D’Aurora found out who is in charge of cleaning up the aftermath.

TAKE PKG

Thousands of students will be dressed in their costumes and headed down Main Street to the fraternity houses and the bars Saturday night to celebrate Halloween.

One student organization on campus has decided to organize a cleanup of what’s left over Sunday morning.

Delta Sigma Theta sorority’s secretary Ashley Bennett said her and her sisters understood the significance of Halloween to Kent students.

TAKE SOT:

DURING HALLOWEEN IT’S A BIG EVENT IN KENT AND ALSO THERE’S A LOT OF BEER CANS AND LITTERING EVERYWHERE AND IT’S LIKE WHO IS GOING TO PICK THIS UP?

So, Bennett and her sorority sisters decided to invite other groups on campus to help make a difference by cleaning up Sunday morning.

TAKE SOT:

WE SAW THE NEED WAS GREAT SO WE OPENED IT TO EVERYONE ON CAMPUS AND ONCE WE TALKED TO THE CITY OF KENT THEY SAID NOTHING LIKE THIS HAD EVER BEEN DONE.

STANDUP:

BUT MORE THAN LIKELY THE LAST THING ON THE MIND OF STUDENTS CELEBRATING HALLOWEEN SATURDAY NIGHT IS WHO WILL BE LEFT TO CLEANUP THE MESS IN THE MORNING.

In fact, it never crossed junior Fashion Merchandising major Samantha Zucker’s mind.

NO I’VE NEVER REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THE TRASH THAT PEOPLE THROW OUT ON THE LAWN TO BE HONEST WITH YOU.

But after I told her about Delta Sigma Theta, she agreed their initiative would be beneficial to the community.

TAKE SOT

I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN KENT DON’T LIKE THE GARBAGE THAT’S ALL OVER THE PLACE, HALLOWEEN OR NOT, SO BY THEM DOING THIS I’M SURE IT’S REALLY HELPING THE COMMUNITY.

And that’s exactly what Bennett had in mind when her and her sisters decided to cleanup the Halloween aftermath.

TAKE SOT

I WANT TO NOT ONLY IMPACT THE CAMPUS BUT REALLY DO SOMETHING IN THE COMMUNITY.

For TV2 News…I’m Elizabeth D’Aurora.

The cleanup is from 11 until 2 P-M Sunday afternoon.

Critique:

-Lighting on Samantha was dark.

-I tried to spice up my b-roll with zooms and pans.

-Preview stories make b-roll challenging to come up with.

-Good lighting on Bennett because I brought her into the studio.

-I wish I had b-roll of her and the other Delta Sigma Theta ladies for more interesting video.

-I never used transitions throughout Beat because Gary didn’t like them, however, I’ve been using them for almost all of my packages this year because I noticed they were used at the station I interned at and I think it makes the video flow better. Simple transitions don’t bother me, but I would never use “crazy” ones that don’t fit the story.
